Rajouri: Soon after the Ladakh became the third administrative division of J&K, voice started emerging from Pir Panjal Region demanding the status of Divisioj for the region. Aquib Wani, a student leader raised the demand for creating of two more administrative and revenue divisions for Pir Panjal and Chenab regions of Jammu and Kashmir that consists of most remotest and hilly areas of the state. In a statement, Aquib said, “Both regions of Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley that consist of Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, Ramban, Doda are distinct from Jammu and are forcibly subjugated under Jammu division that itself consists of three districts”.
“Whatever is sanctioned for Jammu province is confined to the districts of Jammu or Samba while majority of the region is left ignored”, he added.
It is pertinent to mention that all major institutions like AIIMS, IIT, SKAUST, Regional Univeristy, Central University, Railways etc are located in district Jammu while keeping majority population of Pir Panjal and Chenab deprived of all the facilities.
Aquib further added that “Central Governments have earned billions by using water from Chenab and people of Pir Panjal dwelling along LOC are left on the mercy of God, and despite of it government is not paying any attention towards these regions which is quite unfortunate”.
Aquib Wani appealed all socio-political leaders, students, religious clerics, employees of both the region to launch a movement demanding the creation of two separate administrative divisions for Pir Panjal and Chenab which would result in overall development of the ignored lot of the state.
